Have you been to Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery in Ballard yet? Yes, I know the name is a mouthful — but rightfully so are the delectable dishes owner Autumn Martin serves up at her shop including molten chocolate cakes, of course, but also shakes, floats, cookies and cocktails. So if you haven’t yet, you should go. Go now, in fact.
Martin’s desserts have been featured in Oprah magazine, The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Food + Wine, Bon Appétit, The Seattle Times, Sunset magazine, and Edible Seattle and now she’s releasing a cookbook of her favorites from on and off her menu due out Apr. 9 and titled “Malts & Milkshakes.” The book is a flavorful collection of sixty recipes including my picks (that I can’t wait to make):
- Bacon-Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches
- Blackberry Lavender Shake
- Salted Caramel Sundae
So … I’ll just be over here readying my blender but if you’d like to get up close and personal with Ms. Martin, she’ll be holding milkshake demos at Hot Cakes every Saturday at 4 p.m. beginning Apr. 6 in celebration of her book release. The hour-long classes will cover three delicious shakes —plus how to make chocolate ganache and salted caramel sauce!
